Assessment

Strengths & weaknesses

Vexana possesses a remarkably high offensive potential, indicated by a score of 90, allowing her to consistently dish out significant damage throughout a match. Her kit is designed for effective area-of-effect magic damage, making her excellent at clearing minion waves and contributing heavily in teamfights. The ability to apply Nether Curse with her passive, Nether Touch, further amplifies her damage output, especially against grouped enemies or during objective contests. Additionally, her low difficulty score of 10 makes her relatively easy to pick up and play, allowing new players to quickly grasp her core mechanics and contribute effectively.

However, Vexana suffers from extremely low durability, scoring only 20. This means she is very squishy and vulnerable to burst damage from assassins or sustained attacks from marksmen. Proper positioning is paramount to her survival, as she cannot withstand direct engagements. While her offensive potential is high, her magical offense score is 50, suggesting that while reliable, her burst damage might not be as immediate as some other mages without careful setup and itemization. She relies heavily on landing her skill shots, particularly Cursed Blast, which has a delay, making her susceptible to highly mobile enemies who can easily dodge her primary damage source.

Kit

Skills

Passive

Nether Touch

Vexana and the Eternal Guard inflict Nether Curse on enemies hit. The Curse lasts 5s and will cause the affected enemy to explode upon death, dealing 108-500 (+60% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to nearby enemies (base damage scales with level).

  • 500 + 60% Total Magic Power Magic

This passive is very useful when clearing out minion wave as well as harrassing an enemy in lane. This passive will be used effectively when you use <br>"Nether Snare" in the middle of the minion wave. This will apply the passive on each minion and will eventually explode when the minion dies. The explosion covers a certain area that can damage the enemy health bar.

Skill 1

Deathly Grasp

Vexana unleashes a Deathly Grasp in the target direction, dealing 200 (+60% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to enemies in its path. The projectile stops upon hitting an enemy hero, terrifying them and knocking them back, then it explodes, dealing 200 (+60% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to nearby enemies and terrifying them for 1s.

  • 200 + 60% Total Magic Power Magic
  • 200 + 60% Total Magic Power Magic

As much as possible, use this skill on enemy heroes only because you never know when will they attack you. This is also useful when an enemy hero is catching you, just use this skill and their movement speed will get very slow for a period of time making you and opportunity to ran away from them.

Skill 2

Cursed Blast

Vexana marks the target area with the power of the undead, striking it after a 0.8s delay and dealing 580 (+165% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to enemies hit.

  • 580 + 165% Total Magic Power Magic

This skill damages alot when placed and positioned carefully to hit an enemy hero. This skill very useful on clearing out minion wave. Just place this skill on the second minion (there are 3 minions in each wave right, place it on the middle.) In this way, this skill will hit all of the minions and will activate your passive. This skill deals a huge amount of magic damage. And is perfect for stealing lord, turtle, and jungle monsters when you placed and timed carefully. This skill can possibly one shot all of your enemies when you use it correctly, depending on the build of course.

Ultimate

Eternal Guard

Vexana summons an Eternal Guard at the target location, dealing 500 (+60% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to enemies hit and knocking them airborne for 0.8s. The Eternal Guard then joins Vexana in battle for 15s. Each of the Eternal Guard's attacks deals 225 (+40% Total Magic Power) plus 5% of the target's Max HP as Magic Damage to enemies in a large area.

  • 500 + 60% Total Magic Power Magic
  • 225 + 40% Total Magic Power Magic

1st situation: When battling in a 1vs2 situation, use this skill on the damage dealer. (The one who deals a huge amount of damage) Damage dealers can be mages, assassins, and marksman. You have to put your skills prior to the damage dealer so that when they die, they can help you deal damage on the enemy hero.<br>2nd situation: In a 5v5 clash, I recommend to use this skill on tanks. Why? This decreases the regen of their health bar because this skill does magic damage over a period of time. Your 1st and 2nd skill can deal huge damage on other enemy heroes thats why I suggest to use this on tanks. Specially when your team does not have a tank, or your tank is not tanky. But, you can use this on damage dealers to so that you will do more damage. When used in tanks, this will benefit your team because you will have another tank.

Vexana's abilities focus on area control, sustained magic damage, and strategic crowd control.

Her passive, Nether Touch, applies a Nether Curse to enemies hit. This curse lasts 5 seconds, causing affected enemies to explode upon death, dealing 500 flat + 60% scaling (Total Magic Power, Magic Damage) to nearby foes. Use this for efficient wave clearing and lane harassment; hitting minions spreads the curse, leading to chain explosions that damage other minions and nearby enemy heroes. The 60% Magic Power scaling ensures its damage remains impactful with magic items.

Deathly Grasp, her first skill, unleashes a projectile dealing 200 flat + 60% scaling (Total Magic Power, Magic Damage) to enemies. Upon hitting a hero, it terrifies and knocks them back, then explodes for another 200 flat + 60% scaling (Total Magic Power, Magic Damage) to nearby enemies, terrifying them for 1 second. This skill's primary use is crowd control. Aim it at enemy heroes to interrupt movements, disengage, or set up other abilities. The double 60% Magic Power scaling provides reliable burst and control.

Her second skill, Cursed Blast, is Vexana's main damage ability. She marks an area, striking after a 0.8-second delay, dealing 580 flat + 165% scaling (Total Magic Power, Magic Damage) to enemies hit. This skill demands careful placement and timing due to its delay. It excels at quickly clearing minion waves, securing jungle objectives, and unleashing significant burst in teamfights. The exceptionally high 165% Magic Power scaling means this skill benefits most from Magic Power items, becoming incredibly potent late game.

Finally, her ultimate, Eternal Guard, summons an Eternal Guard, dealing 500 flat + 60% scaling (Total Magic Power, Magic Damage) to enemies hit and knocking them airborne for 0.8 seconds. The Guard fights for 15 seconds, each attack dealing 225 flat + 40% scaling (Total Magic Power, Magic Damage) plus 5% of the target's Max HP as Magic Damage to enemies in a large area. This ultimate is highly versatile. Use the initial knock-up for crowd control. The Guard provides sustained damage, effective against both squishy targets and tanks due to the Max HP scaling. Target enemy damage dealers in skirmishes or tanks in teamfights to maximize its impact.

Coaching

Playstyle tips

Playing Vexana effectively requires strategic positioning and precise skill timing, leveraging her high offensive potential while carefully managing her low durability. Her low difficulty score of 10 makes her accessible, but mastery comes from execution.

Prioritize safe positioning. With a durability score of 20, Vexana is extremely fragile. Always stay behind your frontline, avoiding direct engagements. Utilize Deathly Grasp (Skill 1) for crowd control, either to keep enemies at bay or to create an escape route with its terrifying and knock-back effects.

Leverage her passive, Nether Touch, for efficient farming and harassment. When clearing minion waves, use Cursed Blast (Skill 2) to hit multiple minions, triggering passive explosions and damaging nearby enemies. This helps push lanes and maintain map pressure.

Cursed Blast is your primary damage source. Practice its precise placement and timing, as its 0.8-second delay requires anticipating enemy movement. Use it to zone enemies, secure jungle objectives, and unleash devastating burst in teamfights. Its high Magic Power scaling ensures it becomes incredibly potent with items.

Your ultimate, Eternal Guard, is highly versatile. In smaller skirmishes, target the enemy's primary damage dealer for quick elimination. In larger 5v5 teamfights, summoning the Eternal Guard on enemy tanks can be effective. The Guard's attacks deal damage based on the target's Max HP, making it a consistent threat to even the toughest opponents, while your other skills focus on squishier targets. The initial knock-up provides valuable crowd control.

Matchups

Counters

Best ally

Tigreal

He is one of the best clash initiators in the game. He has hard crowd control and take enemies wherever direction he wants.

Counters

Odette

Odette's ultimate takes time to deal more damage. But with Vexana's Charmed Scepter, her ultimate can be cancelled quickly. In this way, Odette is now useless and will rely on her abilities.

Countered by

Lancelot

Lancelot has a very high mobility. With its skills and his ultimate, Lancelot can quickly dash over the enemy or run away from them. In this way, Lancelot counters Vexana because his skills deal alot of damage in just a single skill. Lancelot's Thorned Rose counters Vexana in a way such that he is invulnerable for a very short time, tendency, Vexana's skills will miss and will not do much damage.

Understanding Vexana's matchups is crucial for maximizing her effectiveness and mitigating her weaknesses.

Tigreal makes an excellent ally for Vexana. He is one of the best clash initiators in the game, possessing hard crowd control that can gather enemies and position them perfectly for Vexana's area-of-effect abilities. His ability to take enemies wherever he wants allows Vexana to easily land her delayed Cursed Blast and unleash her Eternal Guard on grouped targets, maximizing her damage output and crowd control.

Vexana is a strong counter to heroes like Odette. Odette's ultimate takes time to deal more damage, making her vulnerable to interruptions. Vexana's Deathly Grasp, with its terrifying and knock-back effects, can quickly cancel Odette's ultimate. This renders Odette largely ineffective, forcing her to rely solely on her basic abilities and significantly reducing her threat in teamfights.

However, Vexana can be countered by highly mobile heroes such as Lancelot. Lancelot possesses very high mobility with his skills and ultimate, allowing him to quickly dash over enemies or escape. This makes it incredibly difficult for Vexana to land her skill shots, especially the delayed Cursed Blast. Furthermore, Lancelot's Thorned Rose ability grants him invulnerability for a very short time, causing Vexana's skills to miss and deal no damage, effectively negating her burst potential and making her vulnerable to his high-damage single-target attacks.

In practice

A practical scenario

In a typical teamfight scenario, Vexana can initiate or follow up on allied crowd control to unleash her full combo. Imagine an enemy team grouped up near a jungle objective. First, cast Deathly Grasp (Skill 1) towards the most dangerous enemy hero or a cluster of enemies. This will terrify and knock back the first hero hit, and then explode to terrify nearby enemies, providing crucial crowd control. Immediately follow this with your main damage ability, Cursed Blast (Skill 2), targeting the now-immobilized or slowed enemies. The 0.8-second delay of Cursed Blast will align perfectly with the crowd control duration, ensuring maximum hits and devastating magic damage. As Cursed Blast lands, summon your ultimate, Eternal Guard, directly into the enemy formation. The initial impact will knock them airborne, providing further crowd control, and the Eternal Guard will then proceed to deal sustained area-of-effect magic damage, including Max HP damage, while also applying Nether Curse (Passive) to all affected enemies. As enemies fall, the Nether Curse will trigger chain explosions, further amplifying your team's damage and potentially securing multi-kills.

Summary

Key takeaways

To master Vexana and dominate the battlefield, focus on these key decisions:

  1. Prioritize landing Cursed Blast (Skill 2) for maximum damage. Its high Magic Power scaling makes it your most impactful ability for wave clear, objective control, and burst.
  2. Utilize Deathly Grasp (Skill 1) strategically for crowd control and self-peel. Use its terrifying and knock-back effects to disengage from threats or set up your devastating follow-up spells.
  3. Position carefully to compensate for Vexana's low durability. Always stay at a safe distance, behind your frontline, to avoid being targeted by enemy assassins or burst damage.
  4. Leverage Fleeting Time's passive by actively participating in kills and assists. This will significantly reduce the cooldown of your Eternal Guard, allowing you to summon your powerful ally more frequently in teamfights.
