How to itemise Bane and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Bane

Bane relies on weaving skills and basic attacks to maximize his passive, Shark Bite, while keeping his skill cooldowns low. This physical build solves Bane's need for high Physical Attack and Cooldown Reduction, which directly scales Crab Claw Cannon by lowering its cooldown as his total physical attack increases. Since Bane lacks innate blink skills, mobility is a major weakness during teamfights and lane trades. By stacking physical damage, cooldown reduction, and movement speed, this build allows Bane to spam Crab Claw Cannon, continuously proc Shark Bite, chunk objectives like turrets with Deadly Catch, and rapidly reposition during skirmishes in the EXP Lane.

Build order

  6. 6 Immortality

Item by item

Magic Boots

Early

Early Cooldown Reduction allows Bane to frequently cast Crab Claw Cannon and Ale during laning. Lower cooldowns mean Bane can proc Shark Bite more often to clear minion waves efficiently and trade damage with opposing EXP Laners. The added mobility helps him roam to early contest objectives like the Turtle or escape incoming enemy ganks, setting up a solid foundation before completing his core physical damage items.

Hunter Strike provides a massive physical attack boost that directly reduces the cooldown of Crab Claw Cannon. Its passive gives Bane a vital burst of movement speed upon dealing continuous damage, covering his main weakness of low mobility. Once completed, Bane can land Crab Claw Cannon, trigger the movement speed burst, and easily close the distance or reposition to land empowered Shark Bite basic attacks during skirmishes.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Retribution: Dealing damage to the same enemy hero or creep 5 times in a row grants 50% extra Movement Speed that decays over 3s (8s cooldown).

War Axe

Core

War Axe excels in extended fights by granting ramping physical attack and spell vamp as Bane deals damage. The extra physical attack continuously feeds into Crab Claw Cannon cooldown reduction and empowers Shark Bite hits. Additionally, reaching maximum stacks grants extra true damage, transforming Bane into a formidable duelist who can sustain through prolonged trades in lane and wear down frontline enemies during mid-game fights.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Fighting Spirit: Dealing damage grants 12 extra Physical Attack and 2% extra Spell Vamp per second for 4s, up to 6 stacks. Deal 10% extra True Damage according to Base Damage at full stacks.####[C8This effect is reduced to 50% for Marksmen, Mages, and Supports.]

Endless Battle perfectly synergizes with Bane's passive, Shark Bite. After casting Crab Claw Cannon or Ale, his next basic attack deals true damage alongside his passive's area-of-effect physical damage. The extra physical attack further scales Crab Claw Cannon, while the mana regeneration and life steal keep Bane sustained in lane, eliminating the need to frequently return to base between taking turrets and fighting for the Lord.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Divine Justice: After casting a skill, the next Basic Attack within 3s deals 60% Physical Attack as extra True Damage (1.5s cooldown).

Blade of Despair offers the highest physical attack increment, drastically reducing the cooldown of Crab Claw Cannon while massively increasing the damage of Shark Bite and Deadly Catch. Its passive boosts physical attack against low-health enemies, allowing Bane to instantly execute fragile backline targets with Crab Claw Cannon or turn Deadly Catch into a devastating teamfight ultimate during late-game clashes.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Despair: Dealing damage to non-Minion enemies below 50% HP increases Physical Attack by 25% for 2s (takes effect before the damage is dealt).

Immortality

Situational

As a melee fighter without reliable escape abilities, Bane is vulnerable to being focused down in late-game teamfights. Immortality gives him a second life, reviving him with HP and a shield. This safety net allows Bane to aggressively dive enemy turrets with Deadly Catch or initiate clashes without fear of instant elimination, giving him time to cast Ale for healing and reset his cooldowns.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Immortal: Revives 2.5s after death, gaining 16% Max HP and a 220-1200 shield (scales with level) that lasts 3s (210s cooldown).

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

When struggling against heavy poke and needing extra sustain early

Prioritise Endless Battle before completing War Axe. The added sustain and true damage help Bane sustain through trade-heavy laning phases while maximizing Shark Bite proc damage without relying on building up War Axe stacks during short trades.

When the team needs high physical execution damage and split pushing

Prioritise Blade of Despair right after Hunter Strike. Fast-tracking this item massively boosts the Physical Attack required to lower Crab Claw Cannon cooldown, allowing Bane to quickly burst squishy opponents and melt enemy turrets with Deadly Catch.

When targeted early by aggressive enemy junglers

Prioritise completing Magic Boots and Hunter Strike as fast as possible, delaying War Axe. The combination of early Cooldown Reduction and Hunter Strike's movement speed boost allows Bane to safely farm with Crab Claw Cannon from distance and quickly escape ganks using Ale.
