How to itemise Wanwan and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Wanwan

This build addresses Wanwan's core operational requirement: high Attack Speed. Both her passive mobility from Tiger Pace and the arrow velocity of her ultimate, Crossbow of Tang, rely entirely on Attack Speed to function effectively. To unleash Crossbow of Tang, Wanwan must maneuver rapidly around enemies using Tiger Pace dashes to hit every weakness exposed by Swallow’s Path or basic attacks. This item path prioritizes attack speed, on-hit damage, and movement to make her dashes faster and easier to control. Consequently, she can unlock her untargetable ultimate consistently while maximizing the total basic attack damage delivered during its invulnerable execution phase.

Item by item

Swift Boots

Early

Swift Boots provide early attack speed that directly boosts Wanwan's Tiger Pace passive dash speed. In the early Gold Lane phase, faster hops make it significantly easier to maneuver around opponents, trigger weakness marks, and land Swallow’s Path. The increased attack rate also smooths out her basic attack animations, providing essential mobility to evade enemy ganks and secure early minion waves effectively.

Corrosion Scythe serves as Wanwan's core power spike. The extra attack speed elevates both her Tiger Pace dash frequency and the firing speed of Crossbow of Tang. Its basic attack slowing effect keeps enemy heroes caught in place, making it much easier to circle around them to strike all weaknesses. Additional physical damage on basic attacks further enhances her trading capabilities throughout the mid game.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Corrosion: Basic Attacks gain 80 extra Physical Damage and slow the target by 8% (halved for ranged Basic Attacks) for 1.5s. Stacks up to 5 times.

Demon Hunter Sword allows Wanwan to shred high-HP targets. Because Crossbow of Tang counts as basic attack damage, the Devour passive triggers on every arrow fired during her ultimate. Combining this item with Tiger Pace gives Wanwan the attack speed necessary for rapid dashing, ensuring she can rapidly hit weakness marks on beefy frontliners and melt them while remaining completely untargetable during her ultimate.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Devour: Basic Attacks deal 8% of the target's current HP as extra Physical Damage (capped at 60 against minions).

Windtalker

Core

Windtalker grants Wanwan significant movement speed and attack speed, directly upgrading her Tiger Pace repositioning distance and Crossbow of Tang burst potential. The Typhoon passive provides area magic damage on basic attacks, solving her wave clear struggles so she can clear Gold Lane quickly. This extra mobility allows her to dodge skillshots effortlessly while searching for angles to break weaknesses.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Typhoon: Every 5-2s (reduced by 0.2s for each Basic Attack), the next Basic Attack will hit up to 3 enemy units for 150-362 Magic Damage. (This attack can Crit and the damage increases to 200% against Minions.)

Haas' Claws provides critical strike synergy and valuable sustain for late-game team fights. The Frenzy passive grants a surge of attack speed upon landing critical hits, further accelerating Tiger Pace hops and ultimate arrow output. The lifesteal keeps her healthy during trades, enabling her to stay aggressive, break weaknesses under pressure, and finish off enemies with an empowered Crossbow of Tang.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Frenzy: Critical strikes grant 20% Attack Speed for 2s.

Immortality

Situational

Immortality acts as Wanwan's ultimate insurance policy during high-stakes late-game clashes. While Needles in Flowers cleanses crowd control, rapid burst damage can still eliminate her before unlocking Crossbow of Tang. The revival shield gives her a second chance to cast Swallow’s Path, break remaining weaknesses, and trigger her invincible ultimate to completely flip the outcome of a team fight around the Lord.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Immortal: Revives 2.5s after death, gaining 16% Max HP and a 220-1200 shield (scales with level) that lasts 3s (210s cooldown).

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

Against heavy physical burst damage

Prioritize buying Immortality right after your core items like Corrosion Scythe and Demon Hunter Sword, delaying Haas' Claws. Burst damage can kill Wanwan before she breaks weaknesses. Immortality guarantees a second chance to use Needles in Flowers, hit remaining weaknesses, and unleash Crossbow of Tang safely.

Against tank-heavy enemy compositions

Rush Demon Hunter Sword immediately after Corrosion Scythe before picking up Windtalker. The extra damage based on target HP applies to every arrow fired during Crossbow of Tang, allowing Wanwan to shred sturdy frontliners quickly while keeping her distance with Tiger Pace.

Item recommendations come from the game's own hero data. The explanations are AI-generated from Wanwan's ability kit and the items' in-game passives, and are checked automatically against the item list — they never introduce an item the game does not recommend for this hero.
