How to itemise Gatotkaca and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Gatotkaca

Gatotkaca thrives in the thick of combat, relying on his Steel Bones passive to gain Physical Defense as his health drops while converting incoming damage into Rage. This specific build solves his need for dynamic survivability and lethal initiation. Because his enhanced basic attack recovers HP based on consumed Rage, stacking health depth and healing amplification maximizes his sustained frontline presence. Unbreakable taunts surrounding targets, forcing them to remain near him while Cursed Helmet burns them down. Meanwhile, Tough Boots - Dire Hit ensures his dramatic entrance via Avatar of the Guardian finishes off fragile enemies, transforming Gatotkaca into a high-sustain crowd control powerhouse during crucial engagements.

Tough Boots - Dire Hit

Early

This boot upgrade provides crucial early movement speed and crowd control resistance for roaming. The Dire Hit effect synergizes with Gatotkaca's aggressive initiation abilities, like Avatar of the Guardian and Unbreakable. When leaping into teamfights, the extra hybrid execution damage helps finish off low-health targets caught in his knockup or taunt zones, allowing Gatotkaca to secure early skirmishes around the Turtle for his team.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Passive - Dire Hit: The next attack against enemy heroes below 35% HP deals 7-18% of their Max HP as extra Hybrid Damage (half Magic and half Physical).

Cursed Helmet provides continuous area damage that pairs perfectly with Gatotkaca's crowd control kit. When he forces enemy heroes to attack him using Unbreakable, they are locked within his Burning Soul radius. This passive damage stacks alongside his Blast Iron Fist shattered zone, punishing melee attackers who try to trade hits with him while he builds up Rage to unleash enhanced basic attacks.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Burning Soul: Deals Magic Damage equal to 0.6% of the hero's Max HP per second to nearby enemies. This damage is increased by 140% to 350% against creeps and minions (scales with level).

Dominance Ice buffers Gatotkaca's physical mitigation before his Steel Bones passive fully kicks in from taking damage. Lowering the attack speed of nearby enemies slows down incoming physical basic attacks, granting him time to safely accumulate Rage without taking fatal burst damage. When combined with Unbreakable, enemy physical carries are forced into a delayed attack rhythm, severely weakening their offensive trade potential during teamfights.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Arctic Cold: Reduces the Attack Speed of nearby enemy heroes to 70% of normal.

Oracle

Core

Oracle is essential because it directly amplifies Gatotkaca's built-in self-sustain. The passive boosts all incoming healing and shield effects, significantly raising the HP recovery granted by Steel Bones when consuming Rage with enhanced basic attacks. This allows Gatotkaca to comfortably remain at low health where his bonus Physical Defense is highest, endlessly cycling taunts and ground slams while recovering large health pools mid-fight.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Bless: Received Shield and HP Regen effects are increased by 30%.

Guardian Helmet provides a massive health pool boost that amplifies Cursed Helmet's damage scaling while extending Gatotkaca's total effective health. The rapid out-of-combat regeneration from Recovery allows Gatotkaca to remain on the map continuously, setting up ambushes with Avatar of the Guardian without needing to recall to base. This persistent presence ensures his team maintains continuous pressure around critical map objectives like the Lord.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Recovery: Regenerates 2.5% Max HP per second (reduced to 0.5% Max HP per second over 5s after taking damage).

Immortality

Situational

Immortality provides a safety net for late-game teamfights where Gatotkaca acts as the primary dive initiator. Jumping directly into enemy formations with Avatar of the Guardian exposes him to concentrated burst damage. Upon reviving, Oracle amplifies the granted shield, giving him time to channel Unbreakable, gather Rage from taking hits, and turn the fight around with a devastating, life-draining enhanced basic attack.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Immortal: Revives 2.5s after death, gaining 16% Max HP and a 220-1200 shield (scales with level) that lasts 3s (210s cooldown).

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

Against heavy physical damage or basic attack hypercarries.

Prioritise Dominance Ice immediately after completing Tough Boots - Dire Hit. Reducing enemy attack speed suppresses rapid physical burst early on, enabling Gatotkaca to comfortably absorb damage during his Unbreakable taunt channel. This allows him to safely accumulate Rage for his Steel Bones passive without taking fatal burst from physical damage carries.

Facing high magic burst and needing immediate teamfight sustain.

Rush Oracle directly after Cursed Helmet. Boosting the HP recovery on Gatotkaca's Steel Bones enhanced basic attacks early helps neutralize heavy magic burst pressure. This sustain allows him to stay in frontline engagements much longer, safely cycling Blast Iron Fist slows and soaking damage to generate Rage for his team.

Playing as the sole initiator for high-stakes Lord contests.

Delay Guardian Helmet to pick up Immortality earlier as your fifth item. This guarantees Gatotkaca can aggressively leap into the enemy team using Avatar of the Guardian during critical Lord contests, knowing he can absorb heavy initial skill dump, resurrect safely, and immediately re-engage with an Unbreakable taunt.
