How to itemise Fredrinn and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Fredrinn

Fredrinn relies heavily on Crystalline Armor to convert damage received into active health, but this decay mechanism requires a massive maximum health pool and consistent damage output to sustain his front-line presence. Piercing Strike directly scales its physical damage with Total HP, making health stacking both a defensive necessity and an offensive multiplier. This build focuses on maximizing Fredrinn's health pool, boosting his health conversion rate, and enhancing his ability to spam crowd control through reduced cooldowns. By combining Cursed Helmet for lane clearing with health-scaling true damage from Thunder Belt and amplified self-healing from Oracle, Fredrinn transforms into an unkillable disruption juggernaut during extended skirmishes around objectives.

  4. 4 Bloodlust Axe
  5. 5 Oracle
  6. 6 Guardian Helmet

Item by item

Equipping Warrior Boots early grants essential physical defense via Valor when taking physical damage in the EXP lane. This early armor allows Fredrinn to safely trade blows and accumulate Crystalline Armor without dying before he can convert Crystal Energy back into health. The extra movement speed also helps him close the gap to land Brave Assault and trigger his knockup on target enemies during early skirmishes around the Turtle.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Valor: Gain 4 extra Physical Defense for 3s when taking Physical Damage, up to 20.

Cursed Helmet provides crucial early health while its Burning Soul passive deals magic damage scaling with Max HP to nearby enemies. Because Piercing Strike scales with Total HP, stacking raw health early increases both Fredrinn's damage output and his Crystal Energy capacity. The passive magic aura drastically accelerates his waveclear and jungle camp clearing, allowing him to quickly build Combo Points and secure river objectives with his team.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Burning Soul: Deals Magic Damage equal to 0.6% of the hero's Max HP per second to nearby enemies. This damage is increased by 140% to 350% against creeps and minions (scales with level).

Thunder Belt synergizes perfectly with Fredrinn's skill-heavy playstyle. After using Piercing Strike or Brave Assault, his empowered basic attack triggers Thunderbolt, dealing True Damage scaling with his extra HP and heavily slowing targets. This true damage counts toward converting stored Crystal Energy back into actual health via Crystalline Armor, while the heavy slow ensures enemies cannot escape Energy Eruption or his follow-up crowd control chain.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Thunderbolt: After casting a skill, the next Basic Attack within 3s deals 50 plus 5% of the hero's extra HP as extra True Damage to the target and enemies around them and slows them by 40%-80% (scales with the hero's extra HP) for 1s (1.5s cooldown).

Bloodlust Axe

Core

Bloodlust Axe supplies crucial skill-based healing that compounds Crystalline Armor's conversion mechanics. Since Fredrinn repeatedly casts Piercing Strike and Energy Eruption—especially with Energy Eruption reducing his basic skill cooldowns—the spell vamp allows him to aggressively convert Crystal Energy into massive HP restoration during cluster fights. This item shifts Fredrinn from merely soaking damage to rapidly restoring his health bar while taunting enemy teams.

Oracle

Late

Oracle is an essential multiplier for Fredrinn's entire sustain kit due to its Bless passive. By increasing all received HP Regen effects, Oracle directly boosts the health converted from Crystal Energy through Crystalline Armor and amplifies the healing received from Bloodlust Axe. Additionally, the magic defense safeguards Fredrinn against burst mages, enabling him to withstand magic damage while maintaining his frontline presence during late-game Lord fights.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Bless: Received Shield and HP Regen effects are increased by 30%.

Guardian Helmet provides a massive influx of raw HP, directly amplifying the physical damage of Piercing Strike and expanding the storage cap of Crystalline Armor. Its Recovery passive allows Fredrinn to rapidly regenerate health between teamfights without returning to base. This constant health restoration ensures he is always at full capacity to initiate with Brave Assault and Energy Eruption during crucial late-game objective contests around the Lord.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Recovery: Regenerates 2.5% Max HP per second (reduced to 0.5% Max HP per second over 5s after taking damage).

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

When facing heavy physical damage threats in lane

Complete Warrior Boots immediately before rushing Cursed Helmet components. The Valor passive grants stacking physical defense when taking physical damage, allowing Fredrinn to survive early physical trades. This safety buffer lets him stack Crystalline Armor without risking early execution while waiting to unlock his crowd control skills.

When your team lacks engagement or sustain in mid-game

Prioritize Thunder Belt right after Warrior Boots over Cursed Helmet. The slow and true damage from Thunderbolt allow Fredrinn to lock down mobile targets following Brave Assault, making it easier to land Energy Eruption and convert Crystal Energy through continuous empowered basic attacks during early skirmishes.

When enemy burst mages pose a constant threat

Rush Oracle immediately after Thunder Belt, delaying Bloodlust Axe. The added magic defense neutralizes magic burst, while the Bless passive enhances health conversion from Crystalline Armor. This ensures Fredrinn survives intense magical focus fire and retains enough HP to taunt enemies with Energy Eruption.
