How to itemise Diggie and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Diggie

Diggie's build is designed to maximize the availability of his game-changing Ultimate, Time Journey, while supporting his heavy mana consumption from spamming Auto Alarm Bomb. Because Diggie gains damage stacks through Dangerous Sparks, he needs consistent mana regeneration and rapid cooldown reduction to place owl alarms across bushes and secure vision. However, Diggie is fragile and vulnerable to burst damage when positioning to cast Reverse Time or absorb crowd control for his team. This build solves his high mana usage early, scales his Ultimate availability for team fights around the Turtle and Lord, and adds physical durability so he survives to protect allies.

Item by item

Magic Boots - Encourage

Early

Magic Boots - Encourage gives Diggie early mobility to roam between lanes and check bushes using Auto Alarm Bomb. The initial cooldown reduction allows Diggie to cast Reverse Time more frequently during early ganks. Upgrading to Encourage boosts nearby allies' offensive stats during skirmishes around the Turtle, complementing Diggie's supportive nature while keeping his high-utility abilities available constantly throughout the early phase.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Passive - Encourage: Success

Auto Alarm Bomb demands constant mana, especially when stacking Dangerous Sparks across the map. Enchanted Talisman solves Diggie's mana shortages completely through its Mana Spring passive, restoring mana continuously so Diggie never needs to recall. The generous cooldown reduction enables Diggie to rapidly set up multiple owl alarms and lower the long cooldown of Time Journey, ensuring his team remains protected from enemy crowd control.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Mana Spring: Regenerates 15% Max Mana every 10s.

Diggie's primary utility centers on Time Journey, which grants Control Immunity and shields to his whole team. Fleeting Time features the Timestream passive, reducing Time Journey's remaining cooldown whenever Diggie gets a kill or assist. In chaotic team fights around the Lord, this lets Diggie cast his Ultimate multiple times, completely countering enemy crowd control combos and turning skirmishes in his team's favor.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Timestream: Hero kills or assists reduce the Ultimate's current cooldown by 30%.

Dominance Ice

Situational

When facing attack-speed focused physical carries, Diggie needs durability to safely position for Reverse Time without getting melted instantly. Dominance Ice provides essential physical defense while applying Arctic Cold to diminish nearby enemy attack speeds. This hampers enemy physical damage output during team fights, protecting both Diggie and his backline allies while Diggie continues placing Auto Alarm Bomb traps around critical map objectives.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Arctic Cold: Reduces the Attack Speed of nearby enemy heroes to 70% of normal.

Physical skill-based assassins and fighters can burst Diggie down before he can activate Time Journey. Antique Cuirass mitigates this threat through its Deter passive, which reduces the attacker's physical damage whenever Diggie is hit by an enemy skill. This added resilience allows Diggie to withstand burst damage while tethering enemies with Reverse Time or stepping into the frontlines to grant Control Immunity to his allies.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Deter: When hit by a skill, reduces the attacker's Physical Damage by 4% for 2s (this effect stacks up to 3 times).

Although Young Again allows Diggie to remain active in egg form after dying, Immortality gives him a true combat second chance. Upon triggering Immortal, Diggie revives on the spot with HP and a shield, allowing him to immediately cast Time Journey or Reverse Time in the middle of a fight. This instant revival maintains Diggie's defensive presence during late-game clashes around the Lord.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Immortal: Revives 2.5s after death, gaining 16% Max HP and a 220-1200 shield (scales with level) that lasts 3s (210s cooldown).

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

Against heavy crowd control and teamfight lineups

Prioritize completing Fleeting Time immediately after your initial mana item. The frequent kills and assists in fast-paced team fights trigger Timestream, dramatically lowering the cooldown of Time Journey. This allows you to deploy Control Immunity and massive shields in almost every continuous skirmish around objectives like the Turtle.

Against physical burst assassins or heavy physical damage

Delay Fleeting Time and prioritize Dominance Ice or Antique Cuirass right after Enchanted Talisman. The Arctic Cold passive slows enemy attack speeds while Deter reduces physical skill damage, allowing Diggie to survive dangerous dives long enough to pull enemies with Reverse Time and shield allies with Time Journey.

When struggling with mana management and trap uptime

Rush Enchanted Talisman immediately after basic boots before buying defensive items. The Mana Spring passive ensures you can continuously deploy Auto Alarm Bomb across bushes to gain Dangerous Sparks stacks and grant vision, maintaining consistent map pressure and objective control without being forced to recall for mana.
